Weihnachtsgrüße aus Unna nach Dar es Salaam

An die Partnerkirche in Tansania sind in diesen Tagen Weihnachtsgrüße herausgegangen:  Dear Sisters and Brothers in the three districts Kaskazini, Kusini and Kati of the ELCT/ECD,
Christmas is coming soon and the Christmas story is again in our mind and leading us through this days. On Christmas Eve the word of the day we find in Luke 2:10:  The angel said to them, „Don't be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people“. (Luke 2.10) This good news we have received more than 2.000 years ago and it is still today the best news the world ever has heard.
'Don't be afraid'! How many sorrow comes into the world because somebody is afraid and he doesn't see another way out than violence:
The man, who is afraid, his wife could leave him. He starts violence without seeing that now he really has lost her and now there is no longer joy, there is no longer love.
A country is made being afraid and the people agree in violence against another country and believe it is their right, to start a war, forgetting that Jesus was a man of peace. In a country which is overtaken with war, joy and love are gone and people start, bombing their own sisters and brothers.
The old word of „an eye for an eye“ was cancelled by Jesus. How often do we see that this is nearly forgotten.
This world is not yet perfect, but it is our duty to work for peace and freedom to give joy a space in the hearts of the people.
We in Unna and you, our sisters and brothers in Dar es Salaam, we shall not be afraid and we shall see the great joy which was given to us by the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the son of God. In this sense we shall celebrate Christmas and show to the people in our districts, in our countries and in our families that this good news is still the best news we ever have heard. And we shall feel the joy in our hearts.
May God bless you in the districts Kaskazini, Kati and Kusini of the ELCT/ECD and may he bless us in the district Unna.  Annette Muhr-Nelson, Superintendentin
